Austin Spring League: The Seuss is *Halfway* Loose!
by Lindsay Lowe

This season's city league is halfway through and has been fun for all involved. Teams meet on Sunday mornings to battle it out for ruler of Seussville with spirit and fun. This year's theme, "The Seuss is Loose," has inspired some great team names such as Green Eggs and Hammers, Hop on Poppers and Horton, Here's a Huck! With six games under their belts, some teams have shown they have what it takes to go all the way to the top, Circus McGerkus and Horton Hucks a Who are tied with winning records of 5-1. However, we all know that anything can happen come tournament time (May 17).
This year's spring league has also seen the advent of fun innovations. In an effort to promote more carpooling and being kind to our earth, we have instituted a "Lorax Love Flip." Instead of a regular disc-flip before the game, the team that has the most members arriving by carpool wins the pull/chooses sides. In addition, for the first time, UPLA has partnered with an Austin club team, Showdown, to run the league. Showdown is a nationally competitive women's team with players from across the state of Texas. Spring league is a valuable and fun fundraiser for the team that will greatly help offset costs of the team's travel-heavy schedule. Many thanks to UPLA and the great Austin ultimate community for helping make the league a success.
Do you want to get in on the fun, but don't have a team? No worries! Come on out to the YMCA East fields on Johnny Morris Rd to pay-to-play, bring yourself, a smile and $8.
