La Discopa

Late in the year, usually some time around Thanksgiving, there is a beautiful tournament that takes place in Mexico City called La Discopa (think Disc Cup). For Mexican Ultimate, this tournament functions like Nationals does in the US.

In 2012, the dates for this tournament have not yet been set.

Only once (in 2007) was this tournament attended by a team from the US; appropriately named, Los Ilegales. It was a great trip that even included a visit to the great Pyramids of Teotihuacan. If there is sufficient interest in the future, Los Ilegales should once again attend this event.

Individuals are recommended to travel down for this tournament, too. Combine the tournament with a couple of days vacation in Mexico City and you’ll be one happy gringo. The tournament actually takes place at a vacation resort in a little town just north of the city called, Zumpango. Stay in small condos right on the resort property and have your meals with all the local teams. The Saturday night party is the stuff of legends, too.
