Austin Winter League
by Paul Hanna
Turn off the Sega Genesis. Unplug the Super NES. Put the Atari on the shelf. This winter, the real games are outside. Are you a speedy veteran with Tecmo-Bowl style hucks and Street Fighter II combos? Or just a banana peel slingin’ Diddy Kong type looking to stir things up while learning a thing or two from the pros? Either way, Austin Winter League is ready for you.
The theme: PRESS START TO PLAY
The place: YMCA - East fields, ATX (same as the past 3 years)
The dates:
- Dec 13
- Dec 20
- (Break for Christmas)
- Jan 3
- Jan 10
- Jan 17
- Jan 24
- Jan 31 tournament
- Feb 14 make-up day
Registration opens in two weeks, and it’s limited to 204 athletes. Make sure you’re one of them!
You may need to blow the dust out of your cartridge, so to speak, after a Fall Ultimate hiatus, but the time is now to dig up the cleats and wool socks, gas up the Go-Kart and get ready to play some cold-weather Ultimate. You can expect all that makes Winter League the best: cool temps, hot food, cold brew, showcase games, lined fields, and seven weeks of competitive Ultimate, minus the allergies and heat exhaustion.
*Yoshis are welcome (as long as they’re on a leash)
