Fields

Fields. They’re so difficult to find and now, with the drought, they’re hard and remind me of conditions dating back to the Dust Bowl. UPLA has been exploring different ideas to try to find good fields for Austin players. We’ve started dialogue with Travis County Parks and the City of Austin. We’ve also contacted some of the fields owned by soccer leagues but have invariably been turned down. So, for now, our leagues are in Manor—those are the closest and nicest fields we’ve been able to reserve.

We would love to have the opportunity to create our own fields. But procuring fields is not so easy. To date only one city in North America has pulled this feat off by themselves (fundraising, purchasing the land, and creating the fields) and that was in Canada. A handful of other cities have built fields in conjunction with their city parks department. That being said, UPLA would like to move forward to procure fields but we need help to do so. Tina travels to Manor to play ultimate two to three days a week. She says it's totally worth it, especially since she just won her first league tournament.
